Fox and Maggie

I can't get over the resemblance Maggie shares with this fox.
I know that dogs share a common ancestor with the Gray Wolf,
but this fox forces me to wonder if Maggie and foxes have the same ancestor.
Except for the cute squeals the fox makes, Maggie makes the exact same expression when I rub her belly. How uncanny!

Mendocino Getaway

We took a road trip up to Mendocino this weekend. About 3 and a half hours drive from San Francisco, it was very scenic and the weather was just perfect. Maggie was pretty happy about being able to ride in the front seat (she usually rides in the back with the harness latched onto the car), and stick her nose out the window. The air was sooo fresh!!

Road to Mendocino.
So excited to ride shotgun.

She also had fun running along different beaches and hiking paths. Now that she knows she loves to play in and around water, she would urge us to throw the ball for her into the water. We lost her tennis ball at one of the beaches because we threw it too far and she was too scared to swim.

"I can get this ball!"
"Nope... too deep."

"I think I can get used to this kinda lifestyle..."
Sun going down @ Glass Beach.

Maggie's two-tone nails

I don't know if it's common for dogs to have different colored claws but Maggie has black and white nails (claws) on all four. Her front paws are all black except one and the back is all white except three.
She seems to have spots of dark skin under all that fur, too. I always imagine that Maggie would look awfully strange if we removed all that fur... like those Chinese crested dogs.

Maggie the Water Dog

Maggie braving the chilly water to retrieve her ball.

Maggie had the time of her life this weekend at two of her favorite San Francisco spots, Crissy Field Beach and Fort Funston!!  We had no idea until just recently that Maggie actually LOVES to play in the water! This was such a surprise to us, seeing how she usually acts during bath time or during walks in the rain. She was so stoked about retrieving the ball that we threw right into the water, that she kept bringing it to us over and over again. We really couldn't believe our eyes that our dog Maggie was getting in the water voluntarily and thoroughly enjoying it. I am sure the last two days were the happiest days of Maggie's life. She is out like a log on the couch now....

Miss Lazy

The other day, Maggie and I found ourselves at Drigon Dog Park in Union City, CA. It is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by tract homes and big wide roads. There's an obstacle course for big and small dogs with plenty of grass to run around on. I foolishly thought that Maggie would be psyched about getting on the obstacle course and I climbed up on it, thinking she would follow me. Instead, she went around the obstacle course and looked up at me as if to say, "Why would you climb this thing when you can go AROUND it?" Ok, Maggie's not an agility-type. In fact, she's kind of lazy. She sat around the shade just chillin' most of the time. (Incidentally under this sign that read "Sheba Shade")

She was also hustled by a large Husky who tried to dominate her. Maggie hates being dominated by certain male dogs, so she fought back feistily and the Husky really showed her who's boss. The owner of the Husky was very nonchalant even though Maggie was screaming bloody murder....some people really don't deserve to own dogs.
